IDOL, the Paris-headquartered independent distributor, has appointed Evan Whikehart as its new General Manager – North America.
Whikehart joins from Secretly Distribution, where he built the company’s Label & Shared Services division.
He will lead IDOL‘s operations across North America and LATAM, overseeing a regional network that includes labels Mexican Summer, Moderna Records and HighNote Records, alongside artists TOKiMONSTA, Erick the Architect (Flatbush Zombies) and The Presidents of the United States of America.
The appointment comes as IDOL says its global revenue surpassed $50 million for the first time last year, with its North American consumption growing by 25% over the past five years.
The region now accounts for nearly a third of the company’s global revenue, according to IDOL.
Based in Brooklyn, Whikehart will also help roll out D2C services in the US – expected to launch in Q3 2026 – bringing expertise in physical distribution to expand that side of the business.
Through third-party partnerships, IDOL will build clients’ online stores and manage physical music and merchandise sales.
“I have long admired IDOL‘s patient and fully independent approach to building meaningful relationships and supporting long-term label and artist development.”

“I have long admired IDOL‘s patient and fully independent approach to building meaningful relationships and supporting long-term label and artist development,” said Whikehart.
“I am incredibly excited to join the team and look forward to providing our partners with the highest standard of service across every stage of their campaigns.”
Pascal Bittard, founder and President at IDOL, added: “Evan brings a rare dual perspective from both the label and distribution sides that will help IDOL expand our operations across North America and LATAM.
“But beyond his impressive track record, he understands our values as a truly independent organization.”

Pascal Bittard, IDOL
Whikehart brings two decades of experience in independent music.
At Secretly Distribution, he built the Label & Shared Services division from the ground up, directing campaigns from 2020 onwards for artists including Hayley Williams, Sufjan Stevens, Santigold, The War on Drugs, Beirut and Crumb, while also developing B2B partnerships including A24 Music.
Prior to that role, he was appointed as Project Manager at Secretly Group in 2015, where he managed Grammy-nominated campaigns for artists on the Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar and Secretly Canadian rosters, including Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers and Mitski.
IDOL‘s appointment of Whikehart is the latest step in a sustained push into the US market.
The company says it has pursued its growth without major label backing or outside investment, relying instead on organic, self-funded expansion.
IDOL founder Bittardwrote in an MBW op-ed in February about the risks of excessive venture capital and private equity investment in the music business, arguing that true independence allows companies to take a long-term, sustainable approach in the interests of artists and labels.
IDOL‘s ongoing growth is expected to see its US team expand from 5 to 15 staff over the next 3–5 years, supported by the company’s 60-strong central operation in Paris.
IDOL has been nominated for Distributor of the Year at the A2IM Libera Awards in June, while its label partner Mexican Summer has earned four separate nominations, including Label of the Year (6–14 employees).

IDOL, an independent music distributor based in Paris, has appointed Evan Whikehart as its new General Manager for North America. Whikehart comes from Secretly Distribution, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the company’s Label & Shared Services division. In his new position at IDOL, Whikehart will oversee operations in North America and Latin America (LATAM), managing a diverse network of labels such as Mexican Summer, Moderna Records, and HighNote Records, as well as artists including TOKiMONSTA and Erick the Architect from Flatbush Zombies.
This appointment coincides with IDOL’s significant growth, as it reported surpassing $50 million in global revenue for the first time last year, with North American consumption increasing by 25% over the past five years. Currently, the North American market accounts for nearly a third of IDOL’s total revenue. Pascal Bittard, the founder and President of IDOL, highlighted Whikehart’s unique dual perspective from both the label and distribution sides, which will be instrumental in expanding IDOL’s presence in North America and LATAM. Bittard also noted that Whikehart’s understanding of IDOL’s values as an independent entity is a significant asset.
Bringing two decades of experience in the independent music scene, Whikehart’s background includes building the Label & Shared Services division at Secretly Distribution, where he managed campaigns for prominent artists such as Hayley Williams, Sufjan Stevens, and The War on Drugs. He previously worked as a Project Manager at Secretly Group, where he oversaw Grammy-nominated campaigns for artists like Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers.
Whikehart’s appointment is part of IDOL’s broader strategy to enhance its footprint in the U.S. market. Earlier in 2024, IDOL appointed Mandy Freebairn as US Label Manager and established distribution agreements with Le Plan Recordings and Old Soul Music. The company further solidified its growth by signing a global distribution and marketing deal with City Slang, a Berlin-based label.
IDOL prides itself on pursuing growth without relying on major label support or external investments, focusing instead on organic expansion. This approach has been articulated by Bittard in various forums, where he has discussed the risks associated with heavy venture capital investment in the music industry. He advocates for a sustainable, long-term strategy that prioritizes the interests of artists and labels.
With plans to expand its U.S. team from five to fifteen employees over the next three to five years, IDOL is well-positioned for growth. The company’s central operations in Paris, which consist of 60 staff members, will support this expansion.
IDOL’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, as it has been nominated for Distributor of the Year at the upcoming A2IM Libera Awards in June. Additionally, its label partner Mexican Summer received four nominations, including Label of the Year for companies with 6–14 employees.
Looking ahead, 2026 marks IDOL’s 20th anniversary, signifying two decades of commitment to independent music and the artists they support. The company continues to build on its reputation for fostering meaningful relationships and supporting artist development, aiming to maintain its trajectory of growth and innovation in the music distribution landscape.
