Adobe partners with Universal and Warner to bring licensed music to Premiere mobile, its free video editing app

Adobe has partnered with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group to bring licensed music into its Premiere mobile video editing app.

The partnerships, announced on Tuesday (November 3), will let users add up to 60 seconds of a track to a video.

The tracks will be licensed for personal, non-commercial use, according to Adobe.

Adobe says the music is “coming soon” to Premiere mobile, which is free to download on iPhone and Android.

“Music has always been a powerful way for people to express themselves and connect with others,” said Bryan Stone, SVP, Business Development at Universal Music Group. “By bringing licensed music from UMG artists into Adobe Premiere mobile, we’re giving creators new ways to build their stories around the songs they love for the first time, while helping our artists and songwriters reach new audiences.”

“The way people experience and engage with music extends far beyond traditional listening platforms,” said Rachel Scarpati, VP, Digital Strategy and Business Development at WMG.

“Our partnership with Adobe Premiere mobile integrates WMG’s catalog directly into the creative process, opening up new possibilities for creative expression and deeper fan engagement.”

“By combining music from two of the world’s leading music companies with Premiere mobile’s pro-level video editing tools, we’re making it easier for you to discover the tracks you love, shape your video around the music, and then share your stories – all in one free app,” Adobe said in its blog post.

Premiere mobile users will be able to browse, search, and preview music by artist or track, and filter it by genre and duration.

Favorite tracks can be bookmarked, and users can explore what Adobe calls “label-featured collections.”

Adobe is also introducing templates paired with music, which users can customize as a starting point for an edit.

Finished videos can be exported from Premiere mobile and posted to “licensed social platforms,” the company said.

In materials sent to MBW, Adobe named YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels as examples.

Users who need music cleared for commercial use can continue to turn to Adobe Stock Audio.

Adobe launched Premiere mobile on iPhone on September 30, 2025.

In its launch announcement, Adobe said the app included royalty-free music tracks among its libraries of free assets.

The company brought the app to Android almost a year later, on September 22.

The UMG and WMG partnerships follow previous music-related moves by Adobe.

In June 2024, Adobe and TikTok struck a deal to bring TikTok’s Commercial Music Library to Adobe Express, via the Symphony Assistant add-on.

The integration gave businesses using Adobe Express access to more than one million pre-cleared songs, MBW reported at the time.

In October 2025, Adobe unveiled a Generate Soundtrack tool within its Firefly AI suite, which it said could “create a custom, fully-licensed music track” for videos. The tool launched in public beta.

Adobe has said its Firefly generative AI models were “trained on licensed content, like Adobe Stock, and public domain content where copyright has expired.”

Elsewhere, Canva launched a library of music licensed from Warner Music Group, Merlin, and other rightsholders in November 2023.

As with Adobe’s new offering, Canva’s licensed tracks came as 60-second clips and were available for non-commercial purposes only.

Meta, meanwhile, launched Edits, its own video-creation app, in April 2025.

At the time of that launch, both WMG and UMG had revenue-sharing agreements with Meta covering licensed music used in creators’ posts.Music Business Worldwide

Adobe has formed partnerships with Universal Music Group (UMG) and Warner Music Group (WMG) to incorporate licensed music into its Premiere mobile video editing app, allowing users to enhance their video projects with tracks from these major music labels. Announced on November 3, these collaborations will enable users to add up to 60 seconds of licensed music to their videos for personal, non-commercial use.

Bryan Stone, Senior Vice President of Business Development at UMG, emphasized the importance of music in storytelling, stating that the partnership provides creators with new avenues to express their creativity by integrating music from UMG artists into their projects. Rachel Scarpati, Vice President of Digital Strategy and Business Development at WMG, echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the partnership integrates WMG’s catalog into the creative process and enhances fan engagement.

Adobe described the collaboration as a way to combine the music from two leading music companies with Premiere mobile’s advanced video editing features. This integration aims to simplify the process of discovering favorite tracks, shaping videos around music, and sharing stories through the app, which is available for free on both iPhone and Android platforms.

The Premiere mobile app will offer users the ability to browse, search, and preview music by artist or track, with filtering options by genre and duration. Users can bookmark their favorite tracks and explore curated collections from various labels. Additionally, Adobe plans to introduce customizable templates that are paired with music to serve as starting points for video edits.

Once users complete their video projects, they can export them from Premiere mobile and share them on licensed social media platforms such as YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels. For those needing music for commercial use, Adobe continues to provide access to Adobe Stock Audio, which offers music that is cleared for commercial purposes.

Premiere mobile was first launched on iPhone on September 30, 2025, and included royalty-free music tracks among its free asset libraries. The Android version of the app followed nearly a year later, launching on September 22, 2026. The partnerships with UMG and WMG build on Adobe’s previous music-related initiatives. For instance, in June 2024, Adobe collaborated with TikTok to integrate TikTok’s Commercial Music Library into Adobe Express, allowing businesses access to over one million pre-cleared songs.

Additionally, in October 2025, Adobe introduced a Generate Soundtrack tool within its Firefly AI suite, which aims to create custom, fully-licensed music tracks for videos. This tool was launched in public beta and uses generative AI models trained on licensed content and public domain material.

The trend toward integrating licensed music into creative tools is not unique to Adobe. Canva also launched a library of licensed music from WMG, Merlin, and other rights holders in November 2023, offering 60-second clips for non-commercial use. Meanwhile, Meta introduced Edits, its video creation app, in April 2025, establishing revenue-sharing agreements with both WMG and UMG for licensed music used in creator posts.

Overall, Adobe’s partnerships with UMG and WMG represent a significant development in the realm of mobile video editing, enabling users to enhance their creative projects with officially licensed music while reaching new audiences and engaging with their favorite artists. The ongoing evolution of music integration in digital content creation reflects the changing landscape of how music is consumed and experienced beyond traditional platforms.
